Monmouth, IL – The program features the speeches given during the opening ceremonies for "Journey Stories," which is a Smithsonian exhibit now on display at the Buchanan Center for the Arts in Monmouth.

The first speech was given by Bill Withuhn, Curator Emeritus, History of Technology, Smithsonian Institution. Withuhn says, "Some of us were here already. Some of us came hoping for a better life. Some of us came in chains. But all of us are still in motion. We all have our Journey Stories."

The second speech was presented by Dennis Cremin, assistant professor of history at Lewis University in Romeoville. Cremin says, "When the Smithsonian goes looking for a story or a history, they come here (to local places) to find out about the past."

The exhibit includes banners, panels, audio stations, and digital slide shows.

"Journey Stories" will remain on display at the Buchanan Center until March 14.

You can listen to a feature about the exhibit by visiting the Local Specials section of our website.
