Emphasis - February 3

Rich Egger's guests are author and historian John Hallwas andUniversity Television's Roger Kent. They talk about the new series “Macomb's Historic Homes,” which UTV will begin showing on February 6.

Hallwas said they wanted to take a different approach to Macomb's history, and did so by focusing on residential life from through the years.

“Normally when people write community histories, as I know so well, you focus on the development of the downtown and schools and hospitals and all sorts of things. But we kind of ignore that for this one and we focus instead on homes and neighborhoods and lifestyles as they evolved over a period of time,” Hallwas said.

Ten homes are featured in the five-part series. The homes are located throughout the city and represent different eras in the community's development.

“We wanted to feature some pre-Civil War homes, some homes from the late 19th Century when the town was booming, and then the early 20th Century and so on,” Hallwas said.

He said the series also points out the variety of architectural styles used in Macomb.

Kent said DVD copies of the series should soon be available at various locations throughout the community.
