Macomb, IL – Rich Egger's guests are Macomb City Administrator Dean Torreson and Sixth Ward Alderman Tim Lobdell. They talk about the half-cent sales tax hike referendum that appears on this month's ballot.
The money raised would be used to pay for road and bridge repairs. It would be added to the half-cent already in place to pay for such work.
Voters narrowly rejected the same ballot proposal in the fall. Lobdell thinks the referendum failed because it's a local issue that was mixed in with a bunch of state and federal elections.
Torreson said the city has overwhelming infrastructure needs. He said there is no way to pay for the work without the sales tax hike money.
Torreson said all the money will go directly into repairs. He said none of it will go toward salaries, overhead, or administration.
