Elementary District Jumps Tax Levy

Carthage, IL – The Carthage elementary school district will ask for about an 11 percent increase in its tax levy for the coming year.

Superintendent Vicky Hardy says the district is still working out what its costs will be after the district's convergence.

However, she says the district is receiving less money for some of its Title programs, such as reading help.

In addition, the district paid for an elementary school gym expansion last year without a bond issue.

Hardy says this means the district must rebuild some of the year-end balances in some of its different funds.

More information:

The district's levy will be about $1.5 million dollars.

The gymnasium was built for elementary school students after the high school was converged to handle students from several elementary districts.
