Election Day in Iowa
The polls will open at 7:00 A.M. for voters in southeast Iowa as they decide who should move on from the primary to the November General Election.
There are contested races up and down the ballot in Lee and Des Moines Counties. They start in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District.
Congressman Dave Loebsack faces a challenge from State Senator Joe Seng on the Democratic side while John Archer and Dan Dolan are squaring off for the Republican nod.
Closer to home, five candidates want to represent the Iowa Senate’s new 42nd District, which includes all or portions of Lee, Henry, Jefferson and Washington Counties.
They are Democrats Donna Amandus, Bob Morawitz and Rich Taylor and Republicans Lee Harder and Larry Kruse.
Incumbent Senator Gene Fraise is retiring after three decades in Des Moines.
Meanwhile, Lee County Board Chairperson Janet Fife-LaFrenz is being challenged in the 5th District by former supervisor Matt Pflug. In Des Moines County, current supervisor Bob Beck will square off with Jim Cary and Ben Diewold with the highest two vote-getters moving on to November.
The polls will remain open until 9:00 P.M. this evening. As results are made public, we will have them on this website and on our station’s Facebook pages.
