Election Changes Coming To Lee County

Keokuk, IA – Lee County must update its voting equipment to comply with the federal Help America Vote Act. Before that can happen, the county must decide how many polling sites are needed and if consolidation of precincts is possible. One proposal would combine Charleston, Van Buren, and Des Moines townships into one precinct, Cedar, Marion, and Franklin into another, and Green Bay, Denmark, and Washington into a third precinct. Auditor Anne Pedersen says this could save the county $40,000 because new equipment would not be needed for four townships. The county is eligible for $228,000 from the federal government.
