Dealing With E-Waste in Rural Areas

Macomb, IL – It sometimes seems as though technology changes every day. Slimmer, faster, flashier products are constantly hitting the market. Today's "next great thing" is obsolete by tomorrow. As a result, electronic waste can pile up - and it can be especially challenging for rural areas to deal with it. Illinois is now working to open more e-waste collection facilities in rural locations. One such center is in Macomb. The Tri-County Regional Collection Center will accept just about any electric appliance except large items such as refrigerators and stoves. It will also recycle paint. It's located in a portion of the former Porcelain Products Company plant. You can listen to News Director Rich Egger's feature about the plant and the challenge of recycling e-waste in rural areas by clicking on the audio button above.
