County to Tighten Plat Ordinances

Macomb, IL – McDonough County's plat officer wants to update the subdivision ordinance. Tom Hickman says too many people are trying to avoid restrictions called for by the plan. Hickman asked the county board's Law and Legal committee for guidance. They told him to uphold provisions that call for a new rural home to be on a public road. Hickman says in the past, people have built a driveway from their home to a public road. Then afterward, they want taxpayers to upgrade the driveway to township road standards. Hickman received permission to update the county's subdivision ordinance. He wants to clarify some sections and to include better specifications for road building. He will bring his suggestions to the committee later this year. The committee can recommend that the full board adopt the changes.
