County To Identify Potential Threats or Disasters

Fort Madison, IA – Lee County is working to identify potential disasters or threats so it can do a better job of preventing them. The county is updating its pre-disaster mitigation plan, which was developed in 1999. Emergency Management Coordinator, Steve Cirinna, says this plan won't serve as an emergency response outline. Instead, he says the pre-disaster mitigation plan will focus on how Lee county can reduce the impact of specific disasters, before such an incident takes place. Cirinna says some of the potential threats facing Lee County include tornadoes, floods, hazardous material spills, and earthquakes. The revised plan must be completed by February. Cirinna says several meetings will be held, throughout the county, to gather public input on prioritzing the disasters and how Lee County can try to prevent them.
