County Considers Layoff Policy

Macomb, IL – McDonough County will begin discussion of a layoff policy. The issue arose at this week's Government Integrity and Oversight Committee during discussion of the coming year's budget. Committee Chairman Glen Foster says farmland assessments are expected to drop by about 15 percent, meaning less property tax income. Foster will schedule a meeting for budget discussion between elected officers and county board members. He says both groups will have to work closely together for the county to have a balanced budget. Foster says previous attempts to improve communication between the groups have not been totally successful. However, he says the financial situation will make cooperation imperative if layoffs are to be avoided.
