Council names Housing Committee

Rushville, IL – A new housing committee is charged with helping Rushville prepare for growth.

Mayor Scott Thompson says the town is hoping for growth in the number of retail stores, and at the state detention center.

However, he says the housing stock probably will not meet needs.

He says the committee will working on a community mapping project with the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs.

Thompson says there are two basic needs. One is upgrading the quality of the current housing stock.

The second will be increasing the amount of affordable workforce housing to handle the growing number of immigrants who work at Excel in Beardstown.

Thompson says once the community mapping is completed, the committee will be charged with finding solutions the city can implement.
