Council Might Help With Path

Carthage, IL – The Carthage City Council might line up help for a local group trying for a bike path around the city's lake. Mayor James Nightingale says he will meet with the city's engineers within the next couple of weeks to see if they would survey and stake out a one-mile loop around the lake. He says aldermen will also be asked to join with township respresentatives to see if crews could clear out some of the brush along the proposed route. He says the idea of a trail has been "kicking around for three or four years," but recently an ad-hoc group of citizens has begun fund-raising and seeking pledges to pay the estimated $100,000 cost.
