Congressman Looking Forward To Health Care Forums

Fort Madison, IA – One U.S. Congressman is looking forward to upcoming town hall meetings on health care reform. Democrat Dave Loebsack of Mt. Vernon says he will hold 16 forums, throughout the Second District, over the next few weeks.

Loebsack says he looks forward to the discussions, as long as they stay civil. "I have no doubt that it is going to get hot and that people are going to get angry," says Loebsack, "but at the same time that is part of democracy as well so I am ready for an exchange of ideas."

Congressman Dave Loebsack says so much misinformation is out there that it is hurting the debate over what is actually in the various reform proposals. He says that if the misinformation were actually true, he might be scared.

Loebsack says the best example is the proposed reimbursements for end-of-life counseling. That provision, though, appears to be dead as several U.S. Senators say it will not be included in the final legislation.

Loebsack says he has not been surprised by the public reaction, though the initial intensity did shock him a bit. He says the legislation must include a public policy to give people a choice.

Congressman Loebsack will hold three forums in Southeast Iowa on Saturday, August 15. The times and locations follow
Mount Pleasant - 12:00 P.M. - Civic Center
Fort Madison - 2:00 P.M. - City Hall
West Burlington - 3:30 P.M. - SCC Building 100
