City Sets Tax Levy Request

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen have approved the city's proposed new tax levy. The city will ask for $1.3 million in property tax money. This year it received $1.2 million. Mayor Mick Wisslead says the city is trying to minimize the impact on those who pay property taxes by collecting more money through the sales tax, fees, and other sources. No one from the community commented on the city's tax levy request during Monday night's Truth in Taxation public hearing.
Also Monday night, aldermen gave final approval to a new annexation policy. The city says it closes loopholes used by those who desired city services but did not want to be brought into Macomb and taxed by the city. Aldermen acted quickly to close the loopholes. They approved the new policy less than one month after the matter was brought to their attention.
