Children Are Ticketed For 'Good Behavior'

The police department in West Point, Iowa is giving children a pat on the back for practicing good safety habits.

Decisions such as wearing a helmet while riding a bike can earn children a reward in the form of a ticket,  which can be used to buy an ice cream cone at a local ice cream shop.

Mark Roberts, the Chief of Police, got the idea for a rewards program from another small town police department.

"I thought it was a good idea, and that we have an opportunity to do that here," Roberts said.

"I presented it to the officers here at the department and they were in support of it. They wanted to kick in some of their own money also and we just rolled with it that way."

Members of the West Point Police Department isse the tickets while they are on patrol.

The tickets do not expire.
