The life of 5-year-old Silven Yocum was taken by a methamphetamine addicted man. Now, a decade later, her family joined together with friends and community members to hold an event called, "Silvie's Ride."
"She was the sweetest little five-year-old girl that you could ever imagine. She was beautiful, well-behaved, happy, loved life, loved little animals, loved her Polly Pockets. She was just so good," said Joanne Churchill, Silvie's grandmother.
At the event, all of Silvie's grandparents reminisced about their favorite memories of her.
"At my house, we had a fireplace. Silvie would dance in front of the fireplace glass. I had arm chair covers. She'd take those arm chair covers and use them as her dancing scarves when she danced," said Kathy Yocum, Silvie's step-grandmother.
At the event, motorcyclists rode through Roseville, London Mills, Bushnell, Avon, Marietta, New Philadelphia, and Table Grove. Along the way, they stopped at Quigley's Saloon, Spoonies Bar & Grill, Bowsers, Rico's, and Eldo's.
The ride helped raise money for the Western Illinois Regional Council. All money will go to the child victims of domestic abuse.
There was a raffle and a silent auction after the ride. The baskets were donated by many businesses in McDonough County.
Silvie's family hopes to do this every year in honor of Silven Yocum.
