Carthage Hopes to Adjust Contract

Carthage, IL – Carthage wants to alter a proposed water purchase agreement with Hamilton. Cartthge Mayor James Nightingale says Hamilton offered an agreement calling for the purchase of five million gallons per month, but he says the pipeline will not always carry that much. He says aldermen are proposing a guaranteed purchase of at least four million gallons per month to supplement the water from the Carthage Reservoir. Nightingale says the Hamilton city council is expected to vote on the issue next month. He says the city plans on a six-month contract. He says that will allow staff adjustments at the Hamilton treatment plant.
