Carter v. Lee County Hearing in June

The latest chapters of a lawsuit against Lee County could be resolved this summer.

A hearing has been scheduled for Friday, June 14 in Mount Pleasant regarding two motions made in the case of Rick Carter versus the county.

A jury sided with Carter, last month, in his wrongful termination lawsuit, awarding him nearly $200,000 in damages.

Carter followed that up with a motion seeking to be reinstated as Lee County Maintenance Director with full salary, benefits and seniority.

He was fired from the position in Nov. 2010.

Carter also wants the county to cover his attorney fees, which amount to roughly $20,000.

In response, the county filed a motion seeking to have the judge disregard the verdict and rule on the case.  If that is not an option, the county wants a new trial.

The hearing is expected to last one day.

It is expected to be heard by Judge John Wright, who signed the order for the hearing.  Judge Mary Ann Brown presided over last month’s trial.
