Burlington Teachers Seek Raises

Teachers in the Burlington School District are looking for some changes in their next employment contract.

The Burlington Education Association’s initial offer calls for a 10.06% increase in total compensation next year, which includes salary, raises, health insurance and benefits.

The teachers also want more freedom in how they use illness or injury leave.

They would receive 20 days that they could use as they see fit as opposed to a separation between personal leave and family leave and they could bank twice as many for future use.

Members of the BEA also want to make a policy permanent that grants them free admission to events.

The district is scheduled to present its initial contract offer on Feb. 6.
