Burlington Starting To Buy Properties

Burlington, IA – Burlington has started the process of buying buildings within a neighborhood it plans to redevelop for commercial and retail use. Community Development Director, Chris Nosbisch, says the city is close to finalizing deals to purchase seven properties within the Manor... which sits near the intersection of Highways 34 and 61. At this point, he says Burlington does not own anything within the 24-acre neighborhood. The city council has given its approval to move forward with a plan to purchase all of the properties within the Manor, clear the land, and sell it to a developer. Nosbisch says the city is currently obtaining appraisals on the rest of the properties. Nosbisch says the project could cost the city roughly $4,300,000. That money will be borrowed. The price tag is expected to include money to help residents move. Nosbisch says Burlington is working on a deal to sell the neighborhood to a Minnesota-based developer.
