The Burlington School District has committed more money to a major upgrade of its football stadium.
The school board initially pledged $750,000 towards a new press box at Bracewell Stadium, but the project will cost several hundred thousand dollars more than originally estimated.
So the district subsequently upped its contribution to $1-million.
The Purple & Gray Foundation, a new booster club, will come up with the remaining $500,000 for the press box, which will be ADA-compliant and include restrooms and concessions.
S&G Construction out of Burlington will build the press box. The project should be completed in late summer.
It is just a portion of the foundation's proposed $5-million upgrade of the stadium, for which it is still raising money. The renovations will include a new scoreboard, new playing surface and new locker rooms.
Meanwhile, the search for a new Burlington School Superintendent is taking shape.
Representatives of Ray & Associates (Cedar Rapids, Ia.) are meeting with the school board this week to finalize schedules and timelines and to create a profile of the district for potential candidates.
The school board will use the meeting to establish the qualities it wants to see in the person hired to replace Jane Evans, who is retiring at the end of June.
The position will be advertised statewide and in national superintendent publications. The search will cost the district $8,500.
Board President Marlis Robberts says Burlington residents will be involved in the search process through focus groups and a public survey.
