Burlington Raising Service Fees

The Burlington City Council continues to increase fees in anticipation of 2013, with the latest covering Flint Hills Municipal Golf Course and facilities in Crapo, Perkins, Riverfront, and Dankwardt Parks.

City Manager Jim Ferneau says season passes and cart leases at the golf course will go up by 3% in 2013.

The increase does not apply to cash payments, though, as the city is trying to reduce its payments for processing credit cards.

Meanwhile, the park shelter fees will increase by anywhere from $3 - $8 per half-day or full-day, depending on the location.

The city council has already hiked fees related to the city ambulance service, the port of Burlington, Memorial Auditorium and animal licenses in recent weeks.

RENTAL INSPECTIONS

At the same time, the Burlington City Council has finalized some changes to its rental inspection program.

Ferneau says negotiations continued to the very end as multiple updates were made while the city council was considering the changes.

The final version gives landlords 60 days, instead of 30 days, to address infestations at properties before mandatory inspections are required.

It also requires 100 amp electrical systems in rental properties unless a lower amp system is approved by a certified electrician.
