Burlington Library Closing For Move

Burlington, IA – A Burlington landmark is shutting its doors, at least for the time being. The Burlington Public Library will close its 4th Street location at 8:00 PM tomorrow. The facility has been in operation for more than 100 years. Library Director, Kay Weiss, says its contents will be moved to the new library along Court Street. She says that process could take several weeks to complete. Since there is no definate reopening date, the library is extending its checkout time from 3 to 6 weeks. Weiss says this will allow patrons to stock up on reading material without facing fines during the move. She says the library hopes its online services will only be down for a couple of days. The current library will eventually be used as a museum by the Des Moines County Historical Society.
