Jim Davidson will be returning to the Burlington City Council after decisively winning Tuesday's special election.
He defeated John Sandell 61% - 39% in the race to fill the seat vacated by Becky Shockley about three months ago.
Davidson served on the city council from 2007 - 2013, including the final two years as Mayor. He was defeated in his bid for re-election one-year ago.
Davidson has said his top priorities are to continue the efforts to get the city's finances in order and to strengthen the city's public safety departments.
He is expected to be sworn into office on Monday, Jan. 5.
