Burlington City Council Field Set

Burlington will not have to hold a primary election in October for its two open city council seats.
The deadline to file nominating petitions was 5:00 p.m. on Thurs., Aug. 27 and as of that time just four people returned the necessary paperwork.

  • Shane McCampbell (current mayor)
  • John Fenton
  • Antionette Wilson
  • Dan Wischmeier

Terri Johnson, Des Moines County's Elections Coordinator, said the primary would have been necessary if more than twice as many people filed as there were open seats.  In this case, the threshold was five candidates.
As a result, the four candidates will all advance to the Nov. 3 election.

Incumbent Becky Anderson chose not to seek re-election.
