Macomb, lIL – Sherman Hall at WIU was cordoned off while bomb technicians checked out a suspicious package left at the front door. The package was discovered by the custodial staff about 6:30 a.m. Employees were sent to the University Union to await updates. A bomb squad from Springfield checked out the parcel. Employees were allowed to return shortly after 11 a.m. Office of Public Safety Director Robert Fitzgerald says the package, wrapped in grocery-type bags, contained audio-visual equipment. However, he says a detonation in a dumpster on campus about a week ago helped shape the police response. Fitzgerald says the package will be examined for fingeprints or other clues.
