Board Views a Voting Machine Alternative

Macomb, IL – McDonough County Board members got a look at another of the handicapped-accessible voting machines they might be asked to purchase. Counties must have ADA-compliant voting machines in place for the March primaries. Clerk Florine Miller says the Accuvote machines are fully accessible by the handicapped. In addition, she says the tie in to the county's current Accuvote paper ballot counters to come up with a final tablulation. Federal money from the Help America Vote Act will pay up to $155,000 toward the county's purchase of the machines. Miller says currently only one handicapped-accessible voting machine has been approved by the state, but she expects others to be certified soon.
