Board Urged to Consider Making a Plan

Macomb, IL – McDonough County board members have been briefed on what they might want to consider if they decide to do a comprehensive plan. Regional planner Lewis Hopkins of the University of Illinois told the eight board members who attended how a plan could help them plan growth and avoid problems. Hopkins says a plan should consider how the board would like to see the county expand. It should also include plans done by other groups including the City of Macomb and the Illinois Department of Transportation. Hopkins told the board it has a resource in the city-county Geographic Information System office at the WIU campus. He says that agency can help collect, file, and correlate plans done by other units of government. Hopkins told the board members that having a plan does not mean the county would have to have zoning laws. However, he says board members will have to be aware of zoning done in the mile-and-a-half beyond the Macomb city limits.
