Macomb, IL – Dozens of WIU students and faculty members gathered for "The Big Picture" on the steps of Sherman Hall. The University Committee on Sexual Orientation sponsored the event. Coordinator Bill Thompson says it makes members and supporters of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, & Transgender (GLBT) community more visible. He says it's important for people to see the diversity within the gay community and learn how harmful stereotypes can be. Thompson says it also might help people who are struggling with their sexual identity. This was the third annual "Big Picture" at Western. It precedes national Coming Out Day, which will be held on October 11.
