Back to Court for Detachment Battle

Macomb, IL – Another round is underway in the battle between the Schuyler-Industry School District and a group of families hoping to detach from it. The district filed papers in McDonough County Circuit Court in Macomb on Tuesday seeking to overturn a ruling last month by Hancock-McDonough regional school trustees. That ruling allowed the families to detach from the district and instead send their children to Macomb schools. In the court filing, the Schuyler-Industry district says the detachment hearing should have been conducted by Fulton-Schuyler regional school trustees. The district also contends the decision went against the weight of evidence presented. The detachment would move about 15 students and some land to the Macomb district, which would cause Schuyler-Industry to lose some state aid and property tax revenue. The district says it cannot afford those losses.
