Arrests Made in Suspicious Package Incident

Macomb, IL – Two WIU students are charged in connection with the suspicious package found in front of Sherman Hall on Thursday. 20-year old Adam Zepeda is charged with felony theft and felony obstruction of justice. His roommate, 20-year old Joey Sherron, is charged with felony possession of stolen property and obstruction of justice. The university says Zepeda was a worker at the Malpass Library and stole a $7,000 projector from the building two weeks ago. Sherron reportedly stored the item in his vehicle. The university says Zepeda was repeatedly questioned about the missing projector but denied his involvement in the crime. He then allegedly wrapped the boxed item in plastic before placing it on the front steps of Sherman Hall. When the package was found Thursday morning, the building was evacuated and a bomb squad was called in from Springfield. More than 200 workers were displaced until an X-ray of the package revealed what was in it.
