Arrest Made In Redemption Center Fire

Keokuk, IA – An arrest has been made in connection with a fire, last month, in downtown Keokuk. Billy Lee Meyers, 58, of Keokuk has been charged with 2nd degree arson, a class C felony. The charge stems from an investigation into the fire that destroyed one of the Southeast Iowa Redemption Center's buildings on September 28. Court records state that Meyers made several threats to a cellmate, while in the Lee County Jail, that he would burn down the redemption center and get revenge on owner Brian Boyd. The documents go on to state that Meyers was released the day of the fire, and was seen trying to get into the building, along South 7th Street, two hours before the fire started. Meyers, who is a former employee of Boyd, was arrested, Thursday, at the Keokuk Police Department. A preliminary hearing has been set for October 30. Bond has been set at $100,000; cash only.
