KEOKUK, IA
Keokuk will try again when it comes to building sidewalks on the city's north side.
The city estimated the cost of construction along Boulevard Road (Plank Roard to Grand Avenue) to be about $120,000, but the lone bid came in at $275,000.
Keokuk plans to re-bid the project through the Iowa Department of Transportation.
LEE COUNTY, IA
Lee County's attorney in a wrongful termination lawsuit says it could be months before the Iowa Supreme Court weighs in on it.
Steven Ort updated the Board of Supervisors during this week’s meeting about former Maintenance Director Rick Carter’s appeal.
Carter is challenging District Court Judge Mary Ann Brown’s decision to set aside the jury’s ruling in his favor.
Ort says the county’s insurance will continue to pay for his expenses and other costs during the appeal.
DES MOINES, IA
20 cities in Iowa, including three in our area, can now access more than $40-million in low interest loans for water quality projects.
Keokuk Water Works can secure $1.6-million from the State Revolving Loan program for construction.
Burlington ($1-million) and Bonaparte ($75,000) are each in line for planning and design loans.
BURLINGTON, IA
Burlington is looking to unload tons of sand, free of charge.
The city is ready to start removing downtown flood barriers, with sandbags being placed in the parking lot of Memorial Auditorium.
The sand is recommended for gardens or fill material, not sandboxes or beaches.
