The Burlington Urban Service (B.U.S.) has been named the “Most Improved Urban Transit System” for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2011.

The agency says ridership is up about 18% while the cost is down about 15% per ride.

Van Buren County, IA

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors says it will look into a proposal to designate all county roads as legal routes for all-terrain vehicles.

The investigation comes about after the board received a petition with nearly 400 signatures of people interested in the change.

Lee County, IA

The Lee County Narcotics Task Force has arrested nine people from throughout the county in the last ten days as part of three separate investigations.

Each individual faces varying charges related to the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

Keokuk, IA

Keokuk’s latest city-wide clean-up program resulted in nearly 300,000 pounds of garbage and unused items reaching the local landfill.

Residents turned in 715 vouchers which were used for one free trip to the landfill.

The total cost to the city was just under $5,900.

The citywide clean-up comes after nearly 1,500 pounds of garbage were collected during the Earth Day cleanup several weeks ago.
