Keokuk, IA –

Keokuk, IA

Some new amenities will soon be added to several parks in Keokuk.

The city council has signed off on the installation of horse shoe pits in Riverview Park and in Rand Park.

It has also agreed to the development of a nine-hole disc-golf course in Tolmie Park.

Keokuk already has a course in Rand Park.

Fort Madison, IA

Southeastern Community College says a man selling magazines, door-to-door, in the Fort Madison area is not affiliated with the school.

The college says the roughly 20-year-old man identifies himself as a student trying to earn money for a journalism club trip to Hawaii.

SCC says there is no such club and no such trip.

The college says people who come in contact with the man in question should call the police.

Keokuk, IA

Keokuk residents will soon have a chance to weigh in on the proposed boundaries for the city's new ward map.

The 2010 Census is forcing Keokuk to reduce each of its seven wards by 90 people in response to the city's population falling by roughly 600.

The largest change would be in southeast Keokuk where several blocks currently located in the 1st ward will be added to the proposed 2nd ward.

Each subsequent ward picks up or loses a block or two in response.

A public hearing on the ward map is scheduled for Thursday night's city council meeting.

Hamilton, IL

Hamilton has finalized a rezoning that could result in at least one new business.

About a half dozen properties east of Highway 96, between Broadway and Highway 136, are switching from residential to commercial use.

A local businessman plans to develop a used car lot on one of the properties.

Several neighbors voiced their opposition to rezoning because of how the proposed used car lot could affect the neighborhood.
