Annual Chocolate Festival Held in Galesburg

T.J. Carson

The Galesburg Historical Society's biggest fundraiser of the year is a sweet treat.

The organization’s 29th Annual Chocolate Festival was held over Valentine’s Day weekend.  Event organizer Debbie Sugai said it helps pay rent for the society’s museum.  It also helps pay for events and activities such as the work the group has done at Peck Park.

"A few years ago we sort of took it upon ourselves to go in there.  We had a couple Boy Scouts who did their Eagle project and erected a pavilion and some chairs and benches.  So we kind of add to that when we can,” Sugai said.

Those who attended the Chocolate Festival sampled numerous treats with chocolate: bacon, strawberries, punch, and more.

Historical Society President Roger Reynolds said around 800 people attended this year.  And Sugai said the event appeals to an audience from a large area.

“We have people from Chicago and Iowa and Indiana, Ohio,” Sugai said.

Sugai also said the event helps bring people to the city's the downtown area so they can experience what Galesburg has to offer.
