American Red Cross: Same Mission Despite Streamlining

The American Red Cross continues to streamline its operations in western Illinois. The organization is confident, though, that the changes will not take away from the overall mission of helping those in need.

The organization's local chapter is based out of both Quincy and the Quad Cities. It serves nearly 20 counties in west-central Illinois, southeast Iowa and northeast Missouri.

With the two headquarters in place, the Red Cross sold its home in Galesburg and currently has its Macomb location along Maple Street on the market.

Trish Burnett, the American Red Cross regional communications director in Peoria, said the organization does not need to keep these buildings because the services provided are hands-on.

"Because our work is really out in the community and that's where the people and the funding need to be. So it's just making better use of our donor dollars and better serving our community," Burnett said.

Burnett said classes previously held in the Macomb location are now available online.

The American Red Cross can be reached toll-free at (844)-319-6560  orby visiting its website.
