Aldermen Still Oppose Light for Bridge

Macomb, IL – WIU's Student Government Association is once again asking the Macomb City Council for a street light on the Wigwam Hollow Road bridge, but the council remains opposed to the idea. The SGA says the bridge is especially dark at night and the area is heavily populated by deer. It believes a light would improve safety. The SGA has also indicated that city code requires a street light every 450 feet. But the city says that applies only to new residential subdivisions. It also says lights are not installed on rural roads such as Wigwam Hollow. Alderman At-Large Chris Senn says he's driven across the bridge many times at night and never experienced any problems. Aldermen could vote to deny the SGA's request at their next meeting. But they might go along with an SGA proposal to put reflectors on the bridge's guard rails.
