Aldermen Say Rezoning Needs Review

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen will not speed up the process for rezoning some land near the Western Illinois University campus. Owner Diana Protsman wants the two plots in the 300 block of North McArthur rezoned from light manufacturing to multi-family residential. She was hoping to speed up the process so development could begin sooner, but aldermen turned down that suggestion on a four-to-three vote Tuesday night. Ken Zahnle, John Maguire, Tim Lobdell, and Dennis Moon voted against expediting the process. Lobdell says it's important to give the issue a full review. A number of neighborhood residents have spoken out against the proposed rezoning. They say there are already too many rental units in the area. Aldermen will further review the issue next week and could vote on it in early March. You can listen to the entire discussion from Tuesday night's meeting by clicking on the audio button above.
