Aldermen Review New Ward Boundaries

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen are getting ready to increase the number of wards in the city from five to seven. The change is required because the census recount shows the city's population is back above 20,000. First Ward Alderman Charles Gilbert helped draw the new maps, which he shared with the rest of the city council this week. He says the population sizes in the wards range from about 2,500 to 3,100. He says a couple of the larger wards are landlocked while at least one of the smaller wards could experience growth in the coming years. Gilbert says a public information meeting could soon be held to solicit feedback. The new ward configuration should be in place for next spring's elections. The city will continue to have two aldermen at-large, meaning the size of the city council will grow to nine.
