Aldermen Consider Adding Tax Levy

Macomb, IL – Macomb might change the way it pays off the bond debt for building the public safety facility, but that change will impact property owners. The public safety building houses the police station, the county sheriff's department, and the jail. The city has been using general revenues to pay its share of the construction cost. But now aldermen are deciding whether to levy a tax for the expense. If the change is approved, the tax bill on a $90,000 home would increase by $28.21. That would free up more than $139,000 in the city's budget to pay for other expenses. Aldermen will be asked to approve the plan at next week's meeting.
