Alderman Concerned About City Revenues

Macomb, IL – As Macomb begins contemplating its proposed tax levy for next year, one alderman says the city needs to take a hard look at all of its revenue sources. The fourth ward's John Maguire is concerned the revenue stream might be inadequate for all of the city's needs and infrastructure projects. He's willing to push for a bigger increase in the tax levy, even if it means holding a Truth in Taxation hearing. Maguire says the hearing would be a chance to explain to residents what they have to show for their city taxes. Maguire also thinks aldermen should look at the city's tap fees and hook-on fees for water and sewer service, its telecommunication tax, and whatever other revenue sources are available to non-home rule communities.
