Knox President To Retire

Galesburg, IL – Dr. Roger Taylor was a retired lawyer when Knox College asked him to become the school's next president.

Taylor accepted, and came out of retirement. Ten years later, he plans to retire again. He'll step down in June 2011, concurrent with the college's 175th anniversary.

He says it's a good time to step down as the school enters what he calls a "new round of strategic planning." It also just went through re-accredidation.

But above all, Taylor says it's time for he and his wife to kick back and relax.

Macomb, IL – The panelists talk about Mike James' proposal to improve local broadcast news. James is editor of NewsBlues.com.

Some of his suggestions are serious, such as requiring the owners of every TV and radio station to reapply for broadcast licenses. He says new licenses should be issued only to individuals or local ownership groups.

Macomb Opposing Quinn Proposal

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen are now on the record opposing a portion of the governor's budget proposal.

Governor Pat Quinn wants to slash the amount of income tax revenue the state shares with local governments. Macomb says the proposal would cost it $463,000.

Fourth Ward Alderman Mike Inman criticized Quinn's plan during the city council's April 5 meeting.
