The Tri States – A look back at the top stories and features from the Tri States Public Radio news department from April 2010.

The top story is President Barack Obama's trip to the tri states near the end of the month. He spoke about green energy during a visit to the Siemens Energy plant in Fort Madison, and pushed for reforms on Wall Street during a stop in Quincy.

Also during the month, a huge rally took place at the Illinois Capitol, where demonstrators called for a tax increase to help pay for state services.

ICC Rejects Ameren Rate Hike Plan

Springfield, IL – The Illinois Commerce Commission shocked Ameren with its ruling on the utility's rate hike request.

Ameren asked for a $162 million increase in rates, but the ICC chose to limit the increase to $4.75 million.

The commission says the decision limits cost increases for Illinois families and businesses while still allowing for reliable service. Acting Chairman Manuel Flores says it was a deliberate and fair decision.

Keokuk, IA – Jason Parrott's guest is Mary Dennis with the Lee County Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition. She organized the upcoming "Body Shop" at Keokuk High School on May 5.

"Body Shop" is a unique health and wellness fair.

Dennis says the event will focus on three issues: body, mind, and relationships. She says each student will attend one seminar on those topics during Body Shop.
