A Tree City Celebrates Arbor Day

Macomb, IL – Arbor Day was a chance for Macomb to continue its recovery from a damaging winter storm.

Numerous trees around town were damaged or destroyed by the ice storm that struck in December 2008. City Forester Tim Howe says eight or nine of those trees were in Chandler Park.

He says many of the trees lost in the park have been replaced with donated trees, and that process continued on Arbor Day when the city planted an American Beech Tree.

The Tri States – A look back at the top stories and features from the Tri States Public Radio news department from April 2010.

The top story is President Barack Obama's trip to the tri states near the end of the month. He spoke about green energy during a visit to the Siemens Energy plant in Fort Madison, and pushed for reforms on Wall Street during a stop in Quincy.

Also during the month, a huge rally took place at the Illinois Capitol, where demonstrators called for a tax increase to help pay for state services.
