Monmouth Salon Helps Clean Oil Spill

Monmouth, IL – A Monmouth hair salon is taking steps to help clean up the Gulf Coast oil spill. But the effort is nothing new. It's been helping clean oil spills for the last couple of years.

Shanna Piper owns Diffusion Hair Studio in Monmouth. She says the salon has been saving hair clippings and collecting nylon stockings for years. She bags up the hair clippings and nylons, then sends them off to Florida, where the materials are either distributed or stored in anticipation of an oil spill.

Lee County Cabins, Sick Leave, Wage Freeze

Lee County, IA –

Cabins
The Lee County Conservation Board wants to build two cabins near Wilson Lake. The two-bedroom cabins would feature electric, water, and sewer services.

Director Tom Buckley says Wilson Lake needs a boost to attract repeat visitors. He says the Conservation Board would also like to add a shower/restroom facility to attract more campers.

Each project is expected to cost about $95,000.

Illinois Lawmakers Craft Spending Plan

Springfield, IL – It's not yet complete ... but a new budget is near for Illinois. Although some work remains, both chambers have passed the bulk of a spending plan.

That plan was firmed up last night (TUESDAY) when the Illinois House finally agreed to borrow four billion dollars to put into state pension funds, after the proposal failed several times before.
