Completion Near for Expressway Corridor

The Tri States – You might not realize it, but Macomb, Carthage, and other towns in the region are now situated along a major Midwest highway corridor.

The Chicago to Kansas City Expressway corridor is just about complete. Tom Oakley, member, Transportation Task Force for the Tri-State Development Summit, said the work is done in Illinois while Missouri is wrapping up work on its final few miles.

New Waiting Game for Corpse Flower

Macomb, IL – Western Illinois University Greenhouse Gardener Jeff Hillyer is waiting to see if he successfully pollinated the Titan Arum plant that bloomed last week.

The Titan Arum is nicknamed "The Corpse Flower" because of the foul odor it gives off when it blooms. It's rare for the plants to bloom - they can go more than a decade between blooms.

State Police HQs Won't Close

Springfield, IL – An Illinois State Police spokesman says the five regional headquarters that were slated to close this year because of state budget problems will remain open.

That includes the District 14 headquarters in Macomb.

Captain Scott Compton says State Police are still reviewing how Governor Pat Quinn's recently approved state budget will affect the agency. But he says State Police received more money than anticipated and can keep the offices open.
