Macomb, IL – The panelists talk about ESPN's cozy relationship with NBA All-Star LeBron James.

James used the network to announce he would sign with the Miami Heat. The panelists feel ESPN did a poor job of reporting before the announcement. Rampant speculation replaced the idea of sticking to the facts.

In addition, ESPN's Stuart Scott and Jim Gray did little more than suck up to James. Both are an embarrassment to journalism.

Keokuk Planning To Hike Bridge Rates

Keokuk, IA – Keokuk Junction Railway hauls freight across the bridge for Roquette America and Amsted Rail (formerly Griffin Wheel).

Keokuk charges the railroad $20.79 for each rail car that crosses the bridge. It also charges an annual minimum usage fee based on roughly 9,500 rail cars crossing the bridge.

Mayor Tom Marion says the Surface Transportation Board says we (the city) can charge a reasonable rate. He says Keokuk must charge a higher rate.

Proactive Plan to Reduce Density

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen are on the verge of approving a plan to reduce the number of high density neighborhoods in the city.

The idea is to create a new zoning designation of R-3A Limited Multiple Family Residential Zoning District. R-3A would be for creation of medium density neighborhoods.

"It's supposed to take R-4 areas down to an R-3A area," said Ed Basch, Community Development Coordinator, during the July 12 Committee of the Whole meeting.
