Rushville, IL – The Rushville Park Board wants to increase income at its Scripps Park Golf Course to avoid staff layoffs. President Sue Acker says the board laid off the assistant superintendent last year due to financial constraints. Acker says the board approved eliminating the $20 differential for non-resident golf memberships in hopes of increasing the number of golfers from the area. She says the number of club memberships has been dropping slightly. She says the board also wants to improve equipment on the course.
Macomb, IL – Macomb might change the way it pays off the bond debt for building the public safety facility, but that change will impact property owners. The public safety building houses the police station, the county sheriff's department, and the jail. The city has been using general revenues to pay its share of the construction cost. But now aldermen are deciding whether to levy a tax for the expense. If the change is approved, the tax bill on a $90,000 home would increase by $28.21. That would free up more than $139,000 in the city's budget to pay for other expenses.
LaHarpe, IL – The Assistant Regional Superintendent of Education for Hancock and McDonough Counties will run for the top post. Gary Eddington filed his petitions to run on the Republican primary ballot next spring. He would replace Bob Baumann, who has indicated he will not run again. Eddingon says the major issues during the coming term will be continuing funding from grants that provide teacher training, homeless education and other programs. He says the office handles more than $2 million in grants each year.
