Southeast Iowa Gets Renovation Dollars

Keokuk, IA – Two Southeast Iowa communities have received some federal money to help pay for renovations to a pair of older buildings. Keokuk Main Street Inc. received $25,000 towards the re-development of the old Eagles building on Blondeau Street. Building owner Kevin Kuckelman plans to build several loft-style apartments as well as office space. He says this Main Street Challenge Grant will help get the project off the ground. Kuckelman also owns the building that houses Tri States Public Radio's Southeast Iowa News Bureau.

Art Exhibit Celebrates Chinese New Year

Macomb, IL – A new exhibit in Macomb shows off the work of an award-winning artist from China. Chuangao Yu is in Macomb for several months to visit his daughter Jing Yu, who works at WIU. They wanted to display some of his work in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations, which began over the weekend. Their search took them to The Wine Sellers on the courthouse square, which is now showing a number of his pieces through the end of February. Chuangao Yu uses a brush pen on special rice paper to create images in a traditional Chinese style.
